Scholarship recipients announced

The Smoky Valley Community Foundation has awarded over $52,000 in scholarships to area students for the upcoming academic year.

  • The Brandon Rogers Technology Scholarship is for a senior graduating from Smokey Valley High School majoring in the field of technology. Tyler O’Dell, Lindsborg, received a $2,000 scholarship.
  • The Clyde And Glenn Lindstrom Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Smoky Valley High School or Smoky Valley Virtual Charter who are pursuing a post-secondary education in a vocational field. The following students each received a $3,000 scholarship: Kyle Anderson, Lindsborg; Rilee Carson, Lindsborg; Autumn Frickey, Lindsborg; Noah Hanson, Lindsborg; Jordan Howard, Gypsum; Seth Nelson, Marquette; Kevin Pope, Gypsum; Bret Sauvage, Falun; Ross Schrag, Lindsborg; Kaj Sjogren, Lindsborg; and Seth Yenni, Lindsborg.
  • The Dorothy J. Ziegler Music and Art Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Smoky Valley High School who plan to major in either performing arts or visual arts. Brandon Krehbiel and Elise Nelson, both of Lindsborg, each received a $4,000 scholarship.
  • The Judith K. Burch Scholarship is for graduates of Smoky Valley High School planning to attend Bethany College, with preference for students planning to major in mathematics or science education, mathematics or science. Veronika Huse and Trace Scott, both of Lindsborg, each received a $500 scholarship.
  • The Louis, Ron and Tom Westman Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Smoky Valley High School. Avery Cooper, Katherine Evert, Brett Heitschmidt, Brandon Krehbiel and Elise Nelson, all of Lindsborg, each received a $1,200 scholarship.
  • The Mona Peterson Community Service Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Smoky Valley High School, the Smoky Valley Home Educators or the Lindsborg Area Home Educators. Elijah Waugh, Lindsborg, received a $489 scholarship; Laurence Dahlsten, Lindsborg, and Diana Hernandez, Marquette, each received a $250 scholarship; Autumn Frickey, Lindsborg, received a $200 scholarship; and Taylor Howard, Gypsum, received a $100 scholarship.
  • The Smoky Valley Elementary Education Scholarship is for seniors graduating from Smoky Valley High School, or home-schooled graduating students living in the Smoky Valley District, who plan to major in elementary education. Brett Heitschmidt, Lindsborg, received a $1,500 scholarship.
