Smoky Valley Community Foundation accepting grant applications

LINDSBORG, Kan.— The Smoky Valley Community Foundation is now accepting applications for spring grants. Online applications are due Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

Last spring, a grant from the community foundation supported Sprout House and their second year hosting a summer garden program. This program included both the younger and elementary kids’ classes. The students were able to water and weed the produce from the start, all the way to time to pick. “The hard work of watering, weeding, and picking paid off in a healthy summer garden of produce,” said grantee Kelley Menke. “It was a fun summer and we look forward to doing it again next year!”

This year, $10,000 is available for charitable community improvement projects within the Smoky Valley area, which covers northern McPherson County and southern Saline County. Grants will be awarded from the following funds:

  • Smoky Valley Community Enhancement Fund – available for projects that address the present and future needs of the community.
  • Kansas Health Foundation Fund for Smoky Valley – available for projects that promote and encourage healthy lifestyles.

Grants will be awarded through a competitive application process and requests up to $3,000 will be considered. Nonprofit organizations, government and public entities, educational institutions and churches are encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on April 1, and grants will be awarded mid-May.
